What is Hammer Mill

The hammer mill drives the hammer through the rotor, runs at high speed inside, reduces the size of the material through impact, and the raw material is repeatedly impacted and broken. The sieve plate is installed at the bottom of the hammer mill, and the material larger than the sieve hole size is retained on the sieve plate and continues to be hit and ground by the hammer until it is crushed to the required discharge size and finally discharged out of the machine through the sieve plate.

The number of hammers depends on the required particle size as well as the mill capacity, in general, the higher the number of hammers, the finer the product, but the lower the capacity. The length of the hammer can also be adjusted, the longer the hammer and the closer to the screen, the finer the product and the lower the capacity. A shorter hammer will produce a thicker product, but with a higher capacity.

The size of the screen helps to control the grinding size by preventing the oversized particles from leaving before crushing. Reducing the screen size will effectively reduce the particle size distribution of the product, but the mill capacity will be reduced accordingly.

Based on the director of the motor the hammer mills are classified into the following types:

 • Reversible hammer mill
 • Non-reversible hammer mill

Although the mills are classified into the above two different types the working and grinding actions of both these types of mills are almost similar. However, their construction differs in various respects.

Advantage

• Relatively reasonable energy requirements and large production capacity

• The product is uniform, and the phenomenon of excessive crushing is less

• Simple structure, easy to install and operate, easy to clean and maintain

• Metal materials are consumed in greater quantities when hard objects are smashed, plus frequent maintenance and replacement of vulnerable parts are necessary.

• Grinding different types of materials (hammer mills are suitable for grinding all kinds of medium hard and brittle materials)

Disadvantage

• The hammerhead wears out quickly and is not recommended for grinding materials that are too hard.

• The mill may be choked if the feed rate is not controlled, leading to damage.

• There is a possibility of clogging the screen

Jinping's hammer mill accessories have the characteristics of wear resistance and corrosion resistance, etc.
